Sewing for babies has always been my favorite! I learned to sew so I could make things for my nephew and my own baby boys. Now I have put together a huge list of the best baby sewing patterns from all of my favorite sewing bloggers. I have rounded up free sewing patterns for anything you could possibly think to sew for your baby. These make great gifts as well so even if you don’t have a baby you can have a blast creating so many fun baby projects. Note that many of these tutorials are made using girl-centric fabrics. But you can make almost all of these in any fabric you want so keep an open mind and don’t rule them out because of the fabric choice! And believe me I am trying to get more little boy projects out there because the lack of boy things was one of the reasons I had to start sewing in the first place!
Things to Sew for Baby Nursery
Having a custom nursery is one of the huge perks of being able to sew! These projects are perfect for sewing everything you need for your baby nursery. Now you can use whatever fabric you want and get the exact look you want! These are all fairly easy projects too so you don’t have to be an expert to make exactly what you want.
Baby Sewing Patterns – Burp Cloths and Bibs
Burp Cloths and bibs are one of the things that a new mom will use a TON of! Use some of these tutorials to create a whole bunch of these useful items. These are a great gift and perfect for creating a fun gift basket for new moms. Be sure to check out all of the different options before diving into your project.
Vintage Handkerchief Burp Cloths – using vintage handkerchiefs is such a fun and unique way to make something extra special!
Bandana Baby Bib – these little bandana bibs are so cute! These are a really great gift for a new mom. Try adding a tab at the bottom to attach a pacifier!

I know there are SO many more great tutorials for making things for baby to wear out there. I rounded up the things that I knew were free. Lots of times you will find a tutorial that links through several pages and eventually to a pattern that you have to pay for. So I only grabbed those that I knew were free!
Pillowcase Dress – this dress can be made in TONS of sizes. So it is great for baby, but also for toddlers and kids too!
Baby Mermaid Costume/sleeper – This is seriously precious! Make this one from a super soft jersey knit and your little one will have the most comfortable and precious little sleeper!
Floral and Striped Baby Leggings
Free Baby Leggings – little leggings are perfect for throwing over a onesie for almost every occasion! These are great for boys and girls so don’t miss this one.
Free Baby Sewing Patterns – Blankets
If you want to make a baby blanket there are SO many options here. From receiving blankets to amazing quilts and everything in between you will find the baby blanket you are looking for in this list.
How to Sew Satin Blanket Binding – satin edged blankets are iconic. This great tutorial will have you adding a satin binding to all of your baby blankets! This is a great skill building tutorial.
T Shirt Baby Quilt – how sweet to make baby a blanket with all of your old sentimental t-shirts. I just love this idea!
15 Minute Baby Blanket – this blanket is a great all around blanket. You can make it with so many different fabrics. Learn to sew with minky in this easy tutorial and then branch out and use any other type of fabric you can imagine for your little one!
Self Binding Baby Blanket – learn how to use the back of a blanket to bind with this great tutorial. This is another great skill building tutorial that you can add to your sewing arsenal. Plus you will have a seriously adorable blanket for your little one when you are done.

Waterproof Changing Pad and Diaper Clutch – working with waterproof fabric can be intimidating. This tutorial will help you learn the skills you need to sew with these tricky fabrics. This changing pad is great for throwing in your purse to put down whenever you need to change your little one. The waterproof nature makes it easy to clean, which we know is totally necessary with anything that goes near your baby’s tush!
Fabric Baby Blocks -these fabric blocks are actually way easier to make than you might think! This is another great skill builder where you will learn how to sew a Y-seam to create this cube shape.
