How to Make a T-shirt Yarn Bowl

I recently went to Creativation and it was such an inspiring event! There were lots of fun craft companies I had heard of but there were also some that were new to me. Hoooked was one of the new companies that I found that was so inspiring and got my creative juices flowing. One of the things they have is t-shirt yarn. It comes in TONS of really cool patterns so of course I had to order a bunch! The company is Dutch but luckily you can find the t-shrirt yarn at JOANN.

These bowls come together super quick.

You can get at least one large bowl from each baby zpagetti skein and countless bowls from a larger skein.

If you know how to crochet I recommend you make a long chain, but it is ok if you don’t know how to crochet! Instead cut three equal lengths of the hoooked yarn. Then simply braid them together.

I made 5 yards of braid for this bowl. The bowl is fairly small and I didn’t use the entire 5 yards. To create the braid I used a piece of tape to tape down the knotted end. Keep the braid tight so that the bowl stays together better in the later steps.

To start the bowl grab the knotted end. Then move up into the braid 1 or 2 inches, that knot will not play nice with your sewing machine so we are going to cut it off before we actually sew. Start clipping the braid together to make a circle (as pictured below.)

Set your sewing machine to a zig zag stitch. Start sewing around the circle using the zig zag stitch to connect the two edges of braid.

Keep going around adding braid to the circle. Keep the circle flat until you have fully formed the bottom of the bowl.

Once the bottom is large enough you will continue adding braid but you will lift the bottom of the bowl up so that it is as up and down as you can get it. This will help to form the sides of the bowl. Keep adding braided yarn until your bowl is the height you want it to be.

If you have extra braid you can create handles for your bowl. Use a zig zag stitch again to attach the handles and cover the loose ends of the braid.
