Hand Sewn Felt Reindeer Tutorial

Are you sewing for Christmas? Do you create your own ornaments? Felt ornaments are one of my favorite things to make every year! This little felt reindeer ornament is so precious! He is easy to sew up. Try teaching the kids to sew and let them help you make a whole bushel of these for the tree this year. If you love felt ornaments like I do you will want to see all THESE ornaments as well!

Supplies:

Felt

Embroidery Floss

Perfect Loft Stuffing

Ribbon

Reindeer Template – SVG or PDF

Instructions:

Cut the reindeer pieces out of felt. Use the PDF template to cut the pieces by hand or use the SVG files and your cutting machine to cut the pieces. If you are using your cutting machine check out this post for all my tips for cutting felt with your cutting machine.

Each piece of reindeer cut out of felt.

Use embroidery floss to attach the various facial features to the reindeer head. Whip stitch the ears, horns, and ribbon to the top of the head.

reindeer head with all facial features attached

Use blanket stitch to attach the two sides of the head together and stuff before completely finishing. (For more tips on blanket stitch see this gnome ornament tutorial and video.) Blanket stitch the two body pieces together and stuff before finishing sewing.

stuffed head and body ready to attach

Sew the head and body together. Be careful to go through the front layer of the body and the back layer of the head to hide your stitches.

Now your reindeer ornament is finished! If you love this you will love this unicorn ornament.

Try enlarging the pattern to create a stuffed unicorn. You could easily make it bigger if you are using a cutting machine and design software.
