Fabric 5: BLOMMA GARDEN PASTICHE

One panel measuring 16.5″ x 52″

For 6-9 you will cut strips of varying heights. They will be 26″ long. I cut mine between 1 1/2″ and 4 1/2″. You can do more or less this is a totally random stripe that is completely under your control.

Fabric 6: PINETRE DAYBREAK

Fabric 7: UNN CROSS PINE

Fabric 8: DULCET PATHS PASTELL

Fabric 9: LITEN DITSY FIELD

Binding:

SCANDI PLANE GREY – I cut the strips measuring 2″ by width of fabric.

Instructions:

For this tutorial I am assuming that you have some basic knowledge of quilting and sewing. If you do not check out my Sewing A Quilt Block post where I walk through the quilting process step by step!

I used a 1/4″ seam for all of my seams. Be sure to measure your seam to get the correct proportions.

Front:

The front is worked in three rows. The left and right rows are made up of 4 Half Square Triangles (HSTs) each. Use the 12 7/8″ squares to create the HSTs for the left and right rows.

The middle row is 8 HSTs (the 8 7/8″ squares make these HSTs) and 4 strips. Download and print this template for the layout of the front of the quilt.

For the large HSTs take one of each of the 12 7/8″ squares (one of each pattern) put them together right sides facing. Be sure to make sure that the HOOT fabric is aligned the way you want it to be on your quilt. You can see in the picture above that I made sure the owls were all aligned correctly. Line the HOOT fabric up so that they all face the same way. Then line the coordinating fabric up facing down on top. The last step will be to take your ruler and draw a diagonal line. Half of them you will draw the line going down to the right and the other half you will draw the line going down to the left. This will ensure that the pattern is aligned correctly for all of the squares.

The smaller squares will create the HSTs for the middle section of the quilt front. Use the template above to assemble the middle sections. Then sew the three sections together.

Back:

The back is made up of a panel and a row of stripes. The stripes are random heights in a random order. Then attach them to the panel and square the striped portion to the panel.

The geometric shapes in the fabric on the front are perfect for creating triangular lines for the quilting.

Then attach the binding using mitered corners. You can get some tips for binding and quilting HERE.
