Free Coin Purse Pattern and SVG File

So I have to come clean. A long time friend of mine asked me to replace his coin purse. I realized he probably wasn’t the only one who used a little change carrier like this and I wanted to share the process with you all as well. This is the super easy and basic version. I am still troubleshooting a little more advanced version where the hardware isn’t exposed. I will share that advanced version when it is perfected. But for now here is a free coin purse pattern to tide you over.

Supplies:

Coin Purse Hardware (I could only find them in this pack of 20)

Leather or Upholstery Fabric

Cricut Maker (optional)

SVG Pattern or PDF Pattern

Instructions:

Use your Cricut Maker to cut out the pattern on the upholstery fabric (or leather or faux leather.) Or print the pattern and cut it out with scissors or rotary cutter. This coin purse is not lined so you simply need to cut two pattern pieces.

Place your hardware just below the top edge and fold the fabric over. Pin the bottom edge in place and then remove the hardware. Repeat on both pattern pieces.

Sew the seam in place. Put the two pieces together right sides facing.

*Note it is not necessary to stitch the 1/2″ section on either side of the pocket you just created. It is shown stitched but it is an unnecessary step.

Draw rounded edges on the bottom half of the fabric. You can use a cup to trace these or just freehand them.

Sew around the three raw edges using 1/2″ seam allowance. Trim the excess and around the corners.

Turn the piece out. Now is a good time to use some fray check on the opening where the hardware will go inside the pocket. This is not necessary if you are using a material that doesn’t fray like leather or faux leather.

Add the hardware to finish the coin purse. **If you don’t have the hardware you could throw a ribbon in and make this a drawstring bag.

Now you have a fun little place to store all of your coins. I am working on a more advanced version where the hardware isn’t exposed but this one works great and would be super cute in a fun fabric.
