Circular Zipper Pouch Tutorial

We have worked on several fun zipper pouches in the past few weeks. We started with an easy zipper pouch. Then we moved to a lined zipper pouch and I even posted a customized zipper pouch. There are lots and lots of variations to a zipper pouch but I wanted to share one more before we move on from zipper pouches! A circular pouch! It is way easier than you think! Here is a circular zipper pouch tutorial. If you feel like you still need help with your zipper skills check out this class from Craftsy.

Felt (optional)

Instructions:

I really wanted to make a fun donut zipper pouch because let’s be honest who doesn’t love a donut? You don’t have to add the donut but I am going to add it here in the instructions in case you feel like you need a donut pouch too!

To make the donut I used a paper towel roll to serve as my template. Trace the outside of the roll onto two pieces of felt. Cut them out. Then trace the inside cardboard in the middle of each piece and cut them out.

On the felt that will make up the icing cut in a wavy pattern so that some of the other felt will show through when they are layered.

Now grab your fabric squares (I used precut 10″ squares.) Top-stitch the donut onto the fabric. Then use an embroidery hoop or something else circular to trace a circle onto the fabric.

Use your pinking shears to cut around the circle. This is a helpful step for turning the circle out.

Cut the same circle onto your second fabric square. Grab your zipper and cut notches along the length of each side.Circular Zipper Pouch Tutorial: This is a fun twist on a zipper pouch. Using the methods in the zipper pouch tutorials listed above attach the zipper to each side of the fabric. Then with the wrong sides of the fabric facing out sew around the rest of the circle. Turn the pouch out and you are finished! You can follow the lined pouch tutorial to add a lining or some interfacing.
