Christmas Cut File – Triceratops for Christmas

Happy Crafters asked me to create a fun Christmas cut file and I was more than happy to oblige. I want a hippopotamus for Christmas is a fun and quirky song. Today I have changed it up a bit to say I want a triceratops for Christmas. You can picture me and my sons singing this over and over in all sorts of intonations to make sure that it really works, and we are pretty sure it does. Although hippopotamus is not easily replaced because it is just so flipping fun to say! Scroll down to grab the free cut file and see everything I used to make these adorable shirts.

My boys are at that weird age when they are almost too cool for most things, but a part of them still likes the things I make for them. I wanted to create something fun and adorable for them while they will still let me! I have been doing a LOT of drawing lately with my iPad and Apple pencil (I use the Procreate app) and I thought a Christmas triceratops would be perfect for my almost too cool boys!

Triceratops in a Christmas Hat File

Then I realized that, hey dinosaurs are not just for boys. Girls like dinos too am I right? So I have drawn this fun little triceratops with a santa hat that can be worn by ANYONE!

Get the SVG file HERE. If you need the PNG you can get that HERE.

Grab the hand lettered wording below. And if you need tips for using this file in Cricut Design Space scroll down even more (or use the Short Cuts list above to jump to the Design Space tips.)

Grab the cut files for these slightly altered song lyrics over on my dear friend Liz’s blog. She is a master at hand lettering and she has created two versions of these fun song lyrics. Get the files HERE.

What supplies do I need to cut these?

Cricut Explore Air 2 (or similar cutting machine)

Cricut EasyPress 2 (or similar heat source)

Green Pixel Heat Transfer Vinyl – You will also need to order HTV mask. The patterned HTV from Happy Crafters is a bit unique as you cut it on the front, as opposed to most HTV that you must mirror and cut on the back. Therefore you need to use the special transfer tape that is also heat resistant so you can press directly on the HTV mask.

Siser Easy Weed – Green Apple, Cream, Bright Red, Red, Black

Siser Glitter HTV – Rainbow White

How do I use this file in Design Space?

This file is designed so that it will cut each color separately while keeping the pieces in the right place so that you can easily assemble the triceratops.

To use this file in Design Space you will upload the SVG to design space and hit save. Then select the image and hit insert.

You can resize the file using the arrow at the bottom of the image. When it is the correct size you will simply hit Make It, in the top corner.

There are a few more options for using the file.

With the file selected, hit flatten, to create a print then cut file. This will allow you to print the image directly and then cut the printed image out. This is useful for creating stickers.

If you want just the outline you can also select the image and use the weld button to merge all the pieces.
