Happy Planner DIY Planner Accessories – Easy Felt Paperclips

This post was sponsored by JOANN. I have been compensated for this post but all opinions and ideas are my own.

What is the happy planner?

The happy planner is a planner system that offers a ton of versatility for customizing your planner. You can find a happy planner for teachers, for household expenses and budgeting, for fitness, and more. I use my happy planner for creating and designing quilt patterns and tracking my craft projects (an updated version of THIS bullet journal craft organizer.)

See how I use my planner to create quilt patterns HERE.

You can find the happy planner and TONS of accessories at your local JOANN or online at joann.com.

What size paper is the happy planner?

The Happy Planner comes in several different sizes. The classic happy planner is about 10″ x 8.5″. The big happy planner is 11.5″ x 10″. There is a micro version that is 5.5″ x 4″. The accessories and supplies come in all shapes and sizes. No matter what your planner style is you will find a happy planner size that meets your needs. The happy planner pictured in this post, think it want it get it, is 8.5″ x 11″.

There are a ton of options when it comes to happy planner accessories. Here are just a few of the things pictured with the felt paperclips…

Felt Paperclips Tutorial:

What you need:

Felt

Thermoweb Basting Spray OR Spray N Bond Fusible Adhesive

Paperclips (small or large)

Embroidery Needle

Embroidery Floss

Sewing Notions Cut File

Cut the sewing notions:

Use your cutting machine, I used the Cricut Maker, to cut out the felt pieces. You will want to size the images down to fit the paperclips. For your reference I resized so that the sewing machine was 3″ wide and 2.5″ tall. If you hit ungroup in Cricut Design Space you can resize the different notions separately.

The rotary cutter tool is the best to use for the felt. You may have to change the tool before cutting because it still suggest you use a fabric blade.

Cut the black shapes 3 or 4 times. Felt is fairly thin so you want to have multiple layers so that the paperclips will stand tall rather than the felt falling over and bending. You can cut the details or not as you see fit. I have done both in the pictures so you can see the difference.

Making the paperclips:

Using the spray adhesive start to adhere the layers of felt together. Place the paperclip in the middle of the layers. Be sure that the paperclip faces the correct way so that it is usable!

Make sure and prepare your surface with a paper bag or scratch paper so that you don’t ruin your table with the spray adhesive. Use the basting adhesive if you plan to do some hand embroidery on the finished pieces. If you want to go with just the outlines use the ultra hold fusible adhesive and press the pieces together with your iron or EasyPress 2.

Use an embroidery needle with embroidery floss to add details. You can add fun faces or just add realistic details.

If you have Cricut Design Space you can find tons more fun images to cut out of felt and use on your paperclips depending on what theme you want. I just love how these fun paperclips turned out.
