CREATE Graffiti Letters Pattern

Letter Cutting Instructions:

After you have downloaded the pattern linked above there are two options for cutting the different layers of letters.

Cut the pattern out using your favorite method and then either print and trace them onto the fabric, or use your Cricut Maker to cut each layer of the letters.

Each letter has four layers. You can mix a lot of patterns or do two solid color layers and two patterned layers. If you plan to use two solid layers make layer 1 and layer 3 a solid and layer 2 and layer 4 a patterned fabric. In the image below you can see I have used off white for the bottom layer, bright packed shapes for the second layer, pink for the third layer, and abstract bubbles for the final layer.

In the pattern Layer 1 is the bottom layer, it is marked in black. Layer two is the second largest and is marked in pink. Layer 3 is the next layer and is marked in red, layer 4 is marked in lavender.

Do not change the size of the letters without re-sizing all four layers at once. This will mess up the ratio and the letters may not layer together correctly.

Assembling the Letters:

Use your spray n bond adhesive to spray the back of layers 2, 3, and 4. Then iron the layers together, press firmly to make sure the pieces stay together.

Before quilting stitch down the edges of layer 2 to layer 1.

Use your quilting foot to quilt each letter. I chose to quilt a different pattern onto each letter with a contrasting color giving them a fun and modern vibe. I chose not to quilt layer 4 and instead did a top-stitch around the edges with another contrasting color.

Assembling the Quilt Top:

Place the letters on the one yard of  dotted lines fabric. One yard will make a small lap quilt. Place the letters so they are slightly overlapping while pinning them in place. Baste stitch the letters in place on the off white fabric.

Finishing the Quilt:

Make your quilt sandwich by fusing the quilt top to the fusible fleece. Then piece together several pieces of the modern fabric listed above to create a backing piece that is 2″ larger on all sides than the quilt top. I used the triangles fabric and the To quilt the letters I did large scribbles with the thread around each letter. Then continue with large triangles around the letters to quilt the remainder of the quilt top.

Use the diamond squares to create binding to finish the edge of the quilt.

This is such a fun quilt and most of all it was fun to make! Do you love a modern quilt as much as I do? Share your favorite quilt style with me in the comments below.
