12 Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Sewing and quilting have long been portrayed as an “old woman’s” hobby. I am a 30 something who is here to yell from the mountain tops that I love to quilt and I am darn good at it! I am not alone! There are a lot of young and modern ladies and gents who have picked up the quilting torch and created some amazingly modern and fun quilts! I have gathered together some of the most stunning, fun, and creative quilt books in hopes that you will also pick up the torch and make something beautiful! Enjoy!

The Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Sampler Quilt – Ok I know I said these were modern, so I am putting this one first because it is not modern (the rest are I promise!) I just adore this book and all the fun cutesy block names and so I had to add it in to the list! The blocks are adorable and there is something slightly modern in the revamping of old things, right??

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

All in a Row – 24 Row by Row Quilt Designs – These row designs are so fun and I love the idea of mixing and matching rows so no two quilts will ever be alike! This would be perfect for an exchange! Everyone does a row and who knows what you will end up with! So fun!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

100 Modern Quilt Blocks – This is like a dictionary for modern quilters. A great collection of lots of modern blocks! Mix and match and create something beautiful!!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Precut Primer Quilt Pattern Book – Can I just tell you how much I adore precuts?? Could life be any easier? There are so many fun precut collections and this book pairs perfectly! I have to confess that I have stacks and stacks of precuts and I never can quite figure out what I want to do with them! Problem solved!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books: Precut Primer

Sunday Morning Quilts – My boys and I sit on the couch every Sunday morning and watch the show Sunday Morning. This book made the list partially for the name that gives me the warm fuzzies, but also because I love the idea of a scrap quilt that still has style and is beautiful to look at!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Cabin Fever – A log cabin block is one of my favorite quilt blocks. Honestly it is one of the only old school blocks that I know the name of because it is one of the only ones I use on a regular basis! Making a modern quilt with the vintage quilt block is totally my wheelhouse!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Simple Solutions for Scrap Quilts – The quilting, scrap ideas, and just plain old adorableness of this book gets me all giddy! I think it is wonderful!!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Scrappy Fat Quarter Quilts – Fat Quarters are another thing that I have way too many of! Unlike the precuts there is so much freedom in a fat quarter. I love to go into a quilt store and just grab a wide variety of random fat quarters and see where they take me! There are no limits to what you can mix and match with very little commitment! Buying a yard of each fabric feels like such a commitment but the Fat Quarter is carefree and cheap and so I love you fat quarter! And this book that shows me what to do with my lost boys collection of them!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Vintage Quilt Revival – Ok by now you are on to me. I have snuck a few vintage-y pattern books in here. So sue me! Just because it is a vintage pattern doesn’t mean it is old! The bright colors that modernize the patterns in this book give me such inspiration and I love bringing the past back to life and adding some flair!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Simply Retro – I am already in trouble for adding the other not so modern books so why not one more! Another fresh take on retro blocks! And again you get to use the precuts and fat quarters which we have already talked about me loving!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Modern Rainbow – Playing with color strikes fear into me! I like my neat little wrapped up bundle that has already been deemed matching by some expert! Having to make hard color choices is definitely not in my wheelhouse. But I am going to try and this book hits all the right notes!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

Modern One Block Quilts – The same block over and over done to perfection is a thing of beauty! For some reason I find this so inspirational, even the cover strikes a cord for me! Love!

Fun and Modern Quilt Books

There is something in all of these books that speaks to me! Which one speaks to you? Let me know in the comments!
