I spend WAY too much time browsing and shopping for sewing stuff. Like so much time seriously! In all that time I have found some really cool sewing gadgets that I bet you never knew about! I love to find fun and interesting tools and I am so excited to share these sewing goodies with you! Here are tons of sewing gadgets that you never knew existed!
Sewing Gadgets You Never Knew Existed
Neat Tools and Sewing Gadgets
Bobbin Buddies – I have a place to put all my bobbins that is separate from the spools themselves. So inevitably I lose the color I need and have to thread a new one and then I waste a lot of time and then I need an empty one and unthread one and waste a bunch of thread. No more of that! These Bobbin Buddies are an amazing solution and they keep the bobbin and the spool together to save time and energy!
Purple Thang – This is a really cool tool. You can use it to feed a tough corner into the sewing machine (rather than risk using your finger and getting a needle through your finger!) Or use it to turn out a corner or stuff a project! Lots of options. Hey you could even use two of them to keep your hair out of your face when sewing!
Hera Marker – I have heard of chalk and water soluble marker but did you guys know that they made these handy little finger pressers? This Hera Marker is awesome for pressing lines into a piece, it would be really great for straight line quilting!
Rulers and Cutting Tools
True Cut Ruler System – This system is awesome because the ruler and the rotary cutter have a guide to help you cut. This will help you get much more accurate cuts! You should also check out THIS post for tips to cut straight!
Rotating Mat – This rotating cutting mat is perfect for squaring up quilt blocks! Just turn the mat instead of having to line the block up each time for straight cutting.
Magnifying Dots – These dots go right onto your clear ruler and make it so that you can accurately and precisely cut. These are great if you have vision issues that make seeing the small lines on your ruler hard to see.
True Grips – These little dots go on your ruler to help it stick to the fabric. This keeps it from slipping when you make your cut. Helping to avoid bad cuts and injuries!
Gypsy Cutting Gizmo – Are You Kidding me??? I have been over here like a schmuck using scissors to cut every piece apart as I piece a quilt and it takes forever!! This Gypsy Cutting Gizmo is phenomenal!!! Talk about a time saver! You can check it out in action below.
Laser Scissors – These are genius! These would be seriously helpful when you are trying to cut a straight line! The rotary cutter is my go to for cutting fabric but for those times when you have something that can’t be cut with the rotary cutter these are great!
Quilting Gadgets
Clover Roll and Press – This little tool is super handy! Get great flat seams before pressing so you can keep your fingers away from that heat source. I use this one ALL the time!
Binding Express Board – I always make my own binding. I just found the tool that will make the binding making process take a ton less time! This Binding Express Board is perfect for making your own binding.
Half Square Triangle Paper I mean seriously did you all know about this? Use the paper to sew straight lines on your half square triangles! This is a great time saver. You can use these to make four HST’s in no time at all! This company has paper for lots of different quilt blocks. Like the Fat Jelly Braid in the images below!
Chaco Liner – This is awesome for marking where you want to add an appliqué or for drawing the quilting design onto the top of a quilt. I can think of about 30 other uses too! This is awesome!
Seam Rippers
These seam rippers are all pretty cool and unique! Depending on your needs you might find a cool seam ripper that you didn’t even realize you needed!!!
Magnifying LED Light – This light is great if you struggle to see those seams. Or if you like to do your seam ripping in the dark next to the fire!
Finger Seam Ripper – This is a handy little compact seam ripper. It just goes over your finger. It is on the way here to my house, so I’ll keep you posted and share a review video super soon!
Table Top Seam Ripper – This is another great one if you just can’t hold a normal seam ripper. It sticks to your table allowing you to hold your fabric and not the seam ripper.

You are so welcome!! I love that presser foot, so fun!!!

I love the bobbin and thread holders!!! I do a lot of embroidering and so many colors are close so this definitely come in handy!!! And takes less space than a huge board on your wall.
sewwhatalicia says
Agreed!! I love the idea of keeping them together!!
Vikki says

That sewing machine that looks like a stapler is fantastic. I bet it is actually a pain to use, but as a concept and a show piece, it is great.
sewwhatalicia says
Haha I think you are probably right! I mean as a party trick…like watch me sew this scarf! But I will definitely stick to my actual sewing machine!
Vivian says
It’s great to keep in your desk at work for a gem that falls out.
Vivian says
Hem! Not gem. Though I do love gems.
sewwhatalicia says
What a great idea!! Or if you are unlucky enough to have your pants split :/
Marjorie McLeod Sales says
I wouldn’t waste my money. They only sew a chain stitch that doesn’t hold…you are better to just use the stapler…lol!
sewwhatalicia says
Haha good to know!!
Jennie says
Have you tried the true grip dots for any length of time? After using them on my rulers for a couple of small projects, they started falling off, leaving the shiny tape on the ruler. I’ve started using invisagrip. That hand sewing machine is crazy hard to use.
sewwhatalicia says
I haven’t used them yet I just found out they existed! Good to know that they don’t work all that great! I will look into the invisagrip!! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
sue says
I have been using these grips for years. They are fantastic and have never had one come off yet.
sewwhatalicia says
Thanks Sue! Good to know!!
Beth says

sewwhatalicia says
She will love any of them!! Thanks for stopping by!
Linda says
Love the bobbin buddies and the Daisy presser foot, and especially love the triangle papers!! Ingenious!! I like the idea of having all my little tools-in-one, but knowing me they would still escape and I’d still be searching for them! Thanks for the post – great info.
sewwhatalicia says
You are so welcome! Thanks for sopping by!
Doris says
I loved that daisy gadget, and several other ones thank you for showing them, I sew and upholstery. Too so I love all gadgets.
Peggy Cleary says
Thanks. I’M excited to try some of these. Triangle paper works great but be aware you need to use small stitches so the paper is well perforated otherwise it can be really hard to remove. I got my Hera free with a magazine years ago, don’t use it much.
Peggy Cleary says
Oh! And folks I know stick a skinny seam ripper into a short spool and stand that on the desk for cutting apart chains of pieces. Much cheaper than that gadget, if slightly more hazardous.
sewwhatalicia says
Oh my that is a good tip but it does sound hazardous!!! Thanks for stopping by!
martina says
I also have the presser foot to the sewing machine but I can not get it to work !!
sewwhatalicia says
Oh no! I am going to post on my Facebook page and see if anyone has any tips! You are talking about the daisy presser foot?
Missy says
I’d love to see a tutorial on the daisy presser foot. Anyone know of one? I just can’t get my mind there.
sewwhatalicia says
Hi Missy. I found this video on youtube that shows how to use the foot step by step. https://youtu.be/4qFIo0EQ4is I hope this helps!!

Maybe everyone already knows about these, but I think these chaco pens are awesome https://www.amazon.com/Clover-Style-Chaco-Liner-White/dp/B0016ZZOEK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469916068&sr=8-1&keywords=sewing+chalk+wheel+pen
sewwhatalicia says
These do look cool! Thanks for sharing!
gina says
Pilots frixion pen! The ink dissapears with heat (when i iron). No need for chalk!
GRETCHEN DIETZ says
The frixion pens weren’t made for fabric and according to this article, the marks can reappear. It doesn’t get rid of the ink, just hides it for a time. Probably better not to use. http://quiltskipper.com/2015/08/frixion-pens-all-you-need-to-know/
