10 Minute No Slip Headband

Are you looking for a quick and easy project that is great for beginners? Look no further! This is one of the first things I learned to make and it couldn’t be easier!!! Here is a quick tutorial for a 10 minute no slip headband.

This is just one of my 50+ easiest sewing tutorials. Check out the rest HERE.

Supplies:

One decorative ribbon measuring 15″

One velvet ribbon measuring 15″

One strip of elastic measuring 5.5″

Here is a video tutorial. It is much easier to explain when you can actually see. If you need to read the instructions keep scrolling and follow along below.

Make sure that you change your needle and it is sharp and new because you are going to go through a lot of layers of ribbon and you don’t want a dull needle or it won’t be pretty when you are finished! For the cleanest finished product always start with a fresh needle on your sewing machine.

Start with one of the ribbons and fold it under 1/4″-1/2″.

Fold the second ribbon over and place it on top of the first ribbon and the elastic.

You can pin it in place. Then we are ready to sew.

Start sewing along one of the long edges very near to the short edge. Then sew the elastic in place along the short edge. Turn and sew along the entire long edge until you come to the second short edge. Fold the edges under on this end, another 1/4″-1/2″. Keeping the ribbon and elastic straight put the other end of the elastic into the folds you just created, as pictured below.

A few ideas for this tutorial. This would be great for a sports team or dance team. You could use custom ribbon that has your school mascot on it. Make them a little smaller and they would be great for a baby girl. Add some flowers and you have an adorable prop for newborn baby photos! I am sure there are lots of other uses…have some ideas share them in the comments!

Thanks for asking! The velvet ribbon keeps it in place.

Since I want to use what I have, I may try using regular ribbon on the inside and use some dots or dashes of hot glue on it to make it non-slip. Not a lbs pretty as velvet tho. 😊
