Terry Cloth Popsicle Sleeve Tutorial
I am having a total fan girl moment! I am participating in The Polka Dot Chair’s Summer Sewing Series and I have been ogling her blog for a long time! I could not be more excited to be participating in this series!!
Supplies:
1 Piece Terry Cloth 12″ x 10″
Scraps cut into strips of 2″ x 5″
I went to the fabric store and had them cut the terry cloth for this project. While she was cutting and we were chatting about what I was going to make she asked me “why don’t you just use old washcloths?” I almost bolted and didn’t buy the stuff, but I did the right thing and stayed and purchased the fabric I made her cut. BUT you should totally just use old wash cloths!
Cut the cloth into a piece that measures 12″ by 10″. We are going to fold the edge under by 1/4″ on both sides. Then sew the seam in place.
Next fold it in half so that the seams you just created are line up with each other. Grab some pins and measure 1 1/2″ in from the edge and place a pin. Then measure 1/4″ from that pin and place another pin. Continue pinning measure 1 1/2″ and then 1/4″ as pictured below.
Now sew a line in each of the spots where you placed a pin.
Cut in between the seams, cut where in the 1/4″ space that you created.
Now we are ready to add the binding to the sides. Use scraps to cut strips that measure 2″ by 5″.
Now press them in half long ways. Then press each short edge under by 1/4″, as pictured.
Now pin one strip onto each of the sleeves. Line the raw edge up with the raw edge of the sleeve.
Sew these in place.
Then fold the piece over the edge and pin it in place on the other side. Sew that edge in place.
Repeat the process with the other side.
That is it! Trim all the strings and extra fuzzies and you have some adorable popsicle sleeves.
The terry cloth will keep your hands warm and they are easy to wipe a dirty face with and then throw in the wash!
What treat screams summer to you?
