Christmas is one of my very favorite times of year! I love to pull out all my craft supplies and make pretty things. There is just something so magical about crafting at Christmas time. This candy cane and Christmas tree felt garland is super easy to make, especially if you have a cutting machine! Get all the details in the post below.
Candy Cane Felt Christmas Garland
Garland Supplies
Extra Wide Double Fold Bias Tape (2)
Red, Green, and White Felt Squares (9×12″)
Cutting Machine Instructions
If you have a Cricut this project becomes even easier. First check out THIS post if you are new to cutting felt with your machine.
Download the PNG linked above. Import the file into Cricut design space and set to your desired size. Cut as many as you want for the garland.
Candy Cane Instructions:
Use your red and white felt squares for the candy canes, you will need 2 of each color felt. From the while cut strips of various heights. Mine ranged from .5″ to 2″.
Sew the white strips onto the red felt again using varying spacing.
For the candy cane I cut them all out by hand. Cut a template and then trace it onto the back of the striped felt.
Cut out all your candy canes and set them aside.
Christmas Tree Instructions:
For the Christmas trees I went the easy route and used my Cricut to cut the shapes. Grab the cut file from above and cut them using your machine. I used two pieces of felt and got 16 trees which was more than plenty.
If you don’t have a Cricut or don’t want to use it you can trace this tree or print it off and create a template to cut out your own.
Assembly Instructions:
Now that you have all your supplies we are ready to assemble the garland. I sandwiched the Christmas tree (CT) in between two candy canes (CC). So it went like this CC, CT, CC, CC, CT, CC. Open the bias tape and stuff the felt pieces into the fold like you are stuffing toppings into a taco.
Then start sewing them in place. Don’t worry about pinning just stick one in as it comes to the sewing machine needle.
If you are picky about spacing measure a set distance and mark with a pencil so that you know where to stuff each piece. Don’t stop and start sewing just continue sewing the two sides of the bias tape together when you are not sewing a felt piece in. This will save time and makes the project quick and easy.
