Crossbody Messenger Bag Pattern
Supplies:
Canvas Fabric
Extra Firm Craft Heat N Bond Interfacing
Cutting Instructions:
From outer fabric cut:
1 – 32″ x 10.5″
2 – 2.5″ x 10″
1 – 2.5″ x WOF (For strap)
1 – 2.5″ x 11″ (For bottom part of strap)
From lining fabric cut:
1 – 32″ x 10.5″
2 – 2.5″ x 10″
From the interfacing cut:
1 – 31″ x 10″
2 – 2″ x 9.5″
Sewing Instructions:
Press the interfacing onto the wrong side of all three of the main fabric pieces.
Place the two 32×10.5 pieces right sides together. Sew around all four sides leaving ~6″ for turning out.
Turn the piece out and then press the opening closed. Top-stitch around the entire piece.
Using the y-seam technique attach the two side pieces by folding the large piece into a 10″ section and a 2″ section. (See the video below for a detailed visual walkthrough.) I also chose to use an inset seam leaving the edges exposed. This lets the lining pop out and add a touch of color.
For the handle fold the 2.5″ x WOF strip in half and sew along the long edge, then fold the 11″ piece in half and sew along the long edge. Turn the straps out and press the seams. Then attach the long strap to the adjustable slide and the clip portion of the d ring. Last attach the short strap to the d ring.
Attach these straps to both sides. Check to ensure that the straps are not twisted before sewing them down.
Finish the bag by using a zig zag stitch to attach the handmade fringe to the curved edge of the bag.
