Burlap Table Runner
March is here! If you are in the Facebook Sewing School group then you know that this month we are making a table runner for sewing school! Spoiler alert…next month we are going to work on a tote! So let’s dive right in shall we??
Supplies:
Burlap (<—-that links to a fun printed burlap) you need 2 yards.
Backing fabric 2 yards
Black Rick Rack two packages of 2.5 yards
Instructions:
I cut my fabric to measure 20×50, I measured my table and that was the size that I thought would look good. This can be adjusted easily so measure your table and cut the fabric a different size if you think that would fit better. I cut the black backing fabric first and then used it as a template for the burlap. Cut them both to exactly the same size.
Once you have cut the two pieces to the right size fold them so that half of the corners are all lined up as shown below.
Then we are going to round the edges to make the finished piece crisper and sharper looking. Use something round to trace a circle, I like to use a paper plate because I can cut around it with my rotary cutter without worrying about damaging it. You can also just trace with a marker or crayon and then cut on the line.
Take the piece you trimmed off the first corners and use it as a template to cut the other side.
Now you should have all the corners rounded.
We are going to line the two pieces up right sides together. Pin all the way around.
Sew 1/4″ from the edge the entire way around. EXCEPT for an area along one side that is 8 or 9 inches long. Look below…
Now reach your hand through that hole that you left and pull the fabric out until all the fabric is right side out and the seam is inside. Press the fabric side (not the burlap side!) and make the seam lie as flat as you can. Pin the opening closed. Sew the opening closed as close to the edge as possible. Then we are going to start adding the rick rack to the edge.
You can pin the rick rack in place or line it up as you sew. Once the rick rack is sewn around the entire piece you are all done! Quick and easy project!!

Oh what a cute table runner! I like using table runners because they are not covering the whole table, just perfect for that little touch of fabric! I’m think i’d be able to make one of these, you made a great tutorial here! Thank you for linking up at Sweet Inspiration!

Beautiful. But the link to the printed burlap fabric doesn’t work. Would you check it out and fix if possible?
