Tips for Adding Shine with Deco Foil
I have been sitting on some pretty big news! I am officially part of the Thermoweb design team! I have used their products for years but when I met them and saw their Deco Foil in action I knew it was something that I HAD to be part of!!!
There are lots of ways to work with Deco Foil but when you are using it with fabric it can be intimidating! I wanted to give you a quick crash course in using Deco Foil so you can start adding some sparkle to your projects!
Supplies:
The first step is to cut out your pattern. You can use any pattern where you want to add foil. I am going to foil the pot for one of the cactus in my appliqué. Trace the pattern onto a piece of the hot melt adhesive as well as onto a light colored piece of scrap fabric. Place the hot melt adhesive rough side down paper side up onto the fabric. Press the adhesive onto the fabric using a pressing cloth.
Peel the paper off and you should reveal a shiny adhesive.
Cut a piece of foil large enough to cover the fabric. Place the foil onto the shiny side of the adhesive with the colored side of foil facing up and the silver side facing down.
For the best results a laminator is your best bet. The one I linked above is very inexpensive! Place your fabric and foil layers in-between card stock or chip board and then run it through the hottest setting on your laminator. Make sure it has had plenty of time to heat up.
Once you have run it through the laminator it should peel right off.
It will leave the foil behind and you can sew right over it! As you can see I have done in the picture below.
