5 Unique Ways to Use SVG Cutting Files
You have probably seen people throw around the term SVG cut file, and maybe you have seen all the different files floating around. A cut file is just the file that you need to use with your cutting machine (like a Cricut or Silhouette.) Maybe you know what they are already but aren’t quite sure what to do with them? Here are some fun and unique ways to use SVG cutting files! Be sure to watch the Facebook Live video at 10am central today for a walkthrough of all of these projects.
5 Unique Ways to Use SVG Cutting Files
All of these projects are made using the November Fresh Cuts Bundle which I create with 9 other amazing bloggers. Get it here to create these projects!
You will also need a cutting machine for these projects.
I love my Cricut Maker.
But you could also use a Silhouette or Brother cutting machine (any machine that will take an SVG.) I also highly recommend using a Cricut EasyPress and Bright Pad to make these projects easier.
Handmade Journal
Supplies:
Embroidery Floss or Twine
Felt, Paper, Card Stock, Fabric, or other (whatever you can think to fill a journal!)
Resize the SVG in Design Space to be 4″ wide for this notebook cover.
For adhesive vinyl you won’t need to mirror the image but you will need to use transfer tape.
Apply the vinyl to the front of the notebook. Cut pieces of felt or paper to fit the notebook. Cut them double the length and then fold them in half, this will leave a nice edge along the bound edge. Then use embroidery floss or twine to sew the notebook together.
Customized Tea Towels
Supplies:
Tea Towels
Resize the image in Design Space to measure ~3″ wide.
Mirror the image before cutting.
Apply using the EasyPress.
Custom Stockings
Supplies:
Blank Canvas Christmas Stocking
Resize the image to ~5″ wide.
Mirror the image before cutting.
Use the EasyPress to adhere the image to the stocking.
These would make great gifts for teachers and therapists.
Zipper Pouch
Supplies:
White Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl
Resize the image to fit your pouch.
Mirror the white glitter heat transfer vinyl and cut using your machine.
Use your EasyPress to attach the vinyl.
These would make great gift bags that could then be used as a case for a tablet.
Embroidery Pattern
Supplies:
Natural Fabric
Pencil
Embroidery Floss
Print the SVG onto a piece of printer paper (use the black and white setting to avoid wasting color ink on your printer.)
Trace the outline of the bird on the printer paper with a black marker or pen.
Place a square of fabric into the embroidery hoop. Pull it tight so it won’t scrunch or wrinkle when you transfer the pattern.
Use your Bright Pad to trace the image from the paper onto your fabric. (See the live video for a video walkthrough.)
